2018-07-13 Renovation of Hamburg’s Quay Walls

Der Hamburger Senat sorgt für einen langfristigen Substanzerhalt des Weltkulturerbes Speicherstadt. Voraussichtlich bis 2024 werden bis zu 200 Millionen Euro für die Sanierung des bekannten Hafenteils bereitgestellt.

Hamburg’s senate cares for a long-term preservation of substance in the world heritage Speicherstadt. Prospective until 2024 200 million Euro will be made available for the renovation of the popular harbor area. This was announced by Hamburg’s financial senator Dr. Andreas Dressel (SPD). Plus: “In the last few decades had only been made selective repair works. Now we can start with the sustainable renovation of the quay walls. For the Speicherstadt with their unique building ensemble is this great news”.

In the last two years was first achieved a comprehensive inventory of the partly more than 100 year old structure. Renovation concepts of some engineer offices had been made and evaluated. The lead was at the state service real estate management and landed property (LIG). In the next years will be taken the implementation of the extensive measures under its technical supervision.

The restricting measures subdivided into two big construction phases. On the one hand the old quay walls shall be comprehensive renovated on a length of about 2.6 kilometers. The second major area aimed the so-called Zollkanal. On this part are 1.65 kilometers quay only. As the tax authority announced the measures for Speicherstadt area will last until the end of 2024. For this purpose are estimated 80 to 90 million EURO. For the renovation at Zollkanal an implementation period until 2028 is provided. For this construction measures are estimated nearly 100 million Euro.
